When in Doubt, Love More

Judgment free zone is the kind of energy I want to always put out to the Universe and to everyone that I encounter. But I realize that I am human and I am capable of judging even though I do my best not to. I am capable of feeling negative feelings. I am capable of anger, sadness, insecurities, and judgment…even though I do my best to turn it around when I do, I’m human just like everyone else and yes, we all have these feelings from time to time.

Yesterday I had an a-ha moment while sitting in a diner enjoying some scrambled eggs and gluten free toast. I felt myself feeling rather irritated and bothered by the waitress and her attitude. In fact, it bothered me so much that I actually considered leaving a very small tip as opposed to my usual 2o percent. Rationalizing it in my head as I got myself more and more worked up at her very passive and dismissive attention or lack thereof. I started questioning my own demeanor as I thought about our very short interaction thus far and I knew that I had been kind, cheery, said please and thank you, smiled, trying to get her to crack a smile of her own even, but to no avail. And then the lightbulb went off…A-HA!

What flashed in the little movie screen in my mind (you know that little one that plays in our busy little heads constantly) was the quote “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” And it was in that moment that I flipped the script, changed my attitude and my judgment about her negativity and the little story I was telling myself and decided that I was not going to change who I was just because of someone else’s actions. It was almost like a wake-up call. Like our creator knocking on my head saying “Hello Jen, anyone home? All you need to do is to be you. Be the loving Jen that you always are, wait no…in fact be MORE loving than you always are. Tip her more than usual. Go above and beyond for her. SHE NEEDS YOUR EXTRA LOVE RIGHT NOW!” And so that’s exactly what I did. And you know what? By the time my coffee cup was empty, she was smiling and even told me to have a nice day. Well, what do you know? You get what you GIVE. Who was I to judge her demeanor? I had no idea what kind of day she may have been having. Had she just lost a loved one? Had someone been unkind to her, therefore, she was acting out what she felt? Had she just learned that her sibling was fighting a terminal illness? Had her son just gotten into an accident? None of that was my business but what I needed to do was make it my business to be loving and kind to her.

If you want more love, GIVE more love. If you want more attention, BE more attentive. If you want more kindness, BE more kind. We certainly can’t change this world for the better if we just go along with all of the negative energy that comes our way. It is always the right thing to be kind and to be loving. You never know who's life you are touching or changing in that moment. And that’s the beautiful thing about life. You are powerful. You are loved. You are surrounded by miracles.

It's so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of your daily routine and I know all too well how it feels get stuck in the negative. I'd love to help you bring the positive into focus.

Love and Blessings,
